Bride's Beloved Dog Lives Just Long Enough to Walk Her Down The Aisle On Her Wedding Day

But one particular story stands out above the rest and is sure to bring a smile to your face. Despite battling cancer, a devoted pup held on long enough to walk his beloved owners down the aisle on their special day. 

When Kelly O'Connell, a young veterinarian, stumbled upon Charlie, a black Lab mix, abandoned in a shopping cart during the dead of winter, she knew her life would never be the same! 

Despite having zero plans of adopting a dog, she looked into those big, soulful puppy eyes and knew that it was meant to be. It was as if the stars had aligned, and the universe was screaming "yes, this is your dog!"  With complete conviction, Kelly declared, "I'm going to take him home!" 

Kelly and Charlie hit it off from the very beginning and their friendship proved to be life-changing! With Charlie's boundless energy and playful nature, he inspired Kelly to take up running, and she quickly discovered a new found passion for the sport. 

As Charlie became an integral part of her life, it was only natural that he would play a key role in her romantic life too. When Kelly met the love of her life, veterinarian James Garvin, she couldn't help but worry about whether he and his children would mesh with Charlie's energetic personality. 

Luckily, Kelly's fears were put to rest when James and his kids fell head over heels in love with Charlie too. It was a match made in heaven, and their little family was complete with their four-legged best friend by their side.

The couple was preparing for their wedding day at the same time. ”He had five seizures the week before the wedding, and it broke my heart,” Kelly told People. ”We considered euthanizing him, but he seemed to improve, so we waited.”

Charlie seemed to be hanging on just long enough to see his owners get married, so that when the big day arrived, Charlie was there.

Charlie found the strength to walk Kelly and James down the aisle for their vows despite being weak from cancer and on the verge of death.

It was an emotional moment for everyone, and Kelly could only think about how proud she was of her beloved dog on her wedding day. ”We basically ignored everyone. We just got down on our knees and kept saying, ‘You did it, buddy. You did it. You’ve arrived.’
